a holistic lifestyle, is it for you?

Let me first start by saying that there is not one right way to do that. Do I sound like a broken record yet? My holistic lifestyle and approach are going to look different than yours, this is so important to remember. This generation needs to stop comparing themselves and judging so much, instead turn your focus inward and follow the path that is right for you.

What does living a hollistic lifestyle even mean? A few things actually, it means that you observe yourself, your mind, body, and soul while creating a life that nourishes you as a whole. It’s having a willingness to create healthy habits, treat your body with natural, non-toxic, healthy foods and products, incorporate regular self-care, find healthy emotional outlets, and be proactive instead of reactive. It’s having an understanding that you’re not looking for a quick fix within a certain time frame, that it’s ultimately a lifestyle that you’re consciously growing and adapting with!

It usually takes a breaking point to finally commit to leading this lifestyle, unfortunately. I hope that if you’re reading this and not at a breaking point yet, you have the courage to take the step in this holistic direction. For me, it was being so fed up with feeling like crap all the time, while taming a growing frustration and confusion from all the information circling out there. I was on anxiety medication yet feeling more anxious and depressed, having to get my appendix removed, bloated 24/7, and as cliche as it seems, I was just so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I often would think to myself, is this seriously what it feels like to be healthy? Is this what I am going to feel like for the rest of my life and I’m not even out of my twenties?!

You see, I was somewhere in between living a “healthy-ish” lifestyle and a holistic lifestyle. I was eating what I thought were healthy foods, I was incorporating a self-care day once a month, and I counted my macros, exercised too much, and did nothing for my mindset. It wasn’t until I was okay with doing the hard work of self-reflection and gaining awareness of some things about myself that I wasn’t too proud of, maybe even embarrassed about at first. If you don’t know how to be honest with yourself it will be hard to change and even incorporate the next steps of living a holistic life.

Here are some self-reflection questions to get you started:

  •  What habits are serving you? What habits are NOT serving you?

  •  What daily actions are you taking to reach your health goals?

  •  How can I take care of myself better?

  •  How do I feel? What actions allow me to feel this way?

  •  What is holding me back in life right now?

If you’re dealing with multiple symptoms (bloating, headaches, fatigue, brain fog, horrible periods, anxiety, depression, etc.) and you’re fully committed to change, then you’re ready to live a holistic lifestyle.

But, I’m going to let you in on a secret. The lifestyle is SIMPLE, it almost seems easy and too good to be true. Eating whole, nourishing foods, moving your body, incorporating a mindfulness practice, drinking filtered water, sweating, building relationships and setting boundaries, building a habit tool box, and being open to learn or incorporate alternative therapies to the conventional route. Our generation also needs to stop overcomplicating and overthinking everything. The HARD part is reframing your mindset, staying consistent, believing in yourself, being open to learning, investing in yourself, and showing up for yourself even when you fall off track. That’s what makes living a holistic lifestyle hard and challenging and it’s the reason why the majority of people in our society are unhealthy and unhappy. Simply because it’s “too hard” or ”too much” to do that work and we seek instant gratification.

If you’re shaking your head yes and can agree with me on this, then you’re ready for that next step. You’re ready to lead a holistic lifestyle and make the honest, necessary changes required to feel empowered and in control of your health and life.
