Do you have metal fillings?

Imagine being a child and having to get a cavity filled.

And your parents aren’t properly educated by the doctor placing the filling.

But you get it done and you take a look in the mirror to find that the filling is metal and will be visible for the rest of your life.

At the time I remember feeling bothered but I thought that was how it had to be. Growing up, I had horrible experiences with the dentist, which didn’t encourage me to take care of my teeth or oral microbiome. Telling a child not to eat candy isn’t the answer to preventing cavities. I now know that cavities and oral care go way deeper than a few pieces of candy.

So it goes without saying that I had more cavities and more metal placed into my mouth. At first, I just cared about the way that it looked but that quickly changed when I started to dive head first into holistic health and healing.

I’ve been on a personal journey with gut issues, cystic acne, and liver burden. Working to get to the root cause of it all, I discovered that the metal fillings (also known as amalgam fillings) could be a cause of the toxic burden my liver was experiencing. This whole time I was worried about appearance when I should have been worried about the internal imbalances they were causing.

What did I do about it?

Well after extensive research and appointments, removal was the only option. I had them removed and replaced with a safer, non-toxic filling.

The thing that frustrates me the most is that we aren't educated about any of this and metal fillings are still being placed to this day. What no one is talking about though is that the mercury and other heavy metals in the filling leak into the bloodstream slowly every single day. This causes several health problems over time but the liver takes a direct hit.

You know, sometimes I share this story and the response I receive is usually somewhere along the lines of “It’s crazy that something happening in your mouth has such an impact on the rest of your body”.

Everything is connected and the further I dive into holistic and integrative health, the more I realize how important it is to get to the root cause of every symptom. Perhaps if I went the standard western medicine route I would have been told to monitor my liver and maybe take a prescription to mask the symptoms I was experiencing. Just to later find that I have more symptoms and possibly liver disease because the heavy metals became too much for my body to handle.

I’m thankful that I have a strong immune system and the financial support to have them removed safely but I can’t help but think of everyone still walking around with them in their mouth, likely experiencing symptoms that have not yet been connected.
