My frist Costco trip

So Matt and I recently became Costco members. This may not seem like a big deal to you but this was one of those tasks on the to-do list that continued to be pushed to the bottom week after week. Do you have a task like that on your to-do list?

I wanted to become a member because of course, the savings long-term. When you’re on a holistic health journey there are some items that you want but tend to leave behind because of the cost. The items that aren’t a priority but a huge bonus when you do have them in your life. One example for me is Maca root powder or Goji berries. Not to mention, stocking up on staple items is ideal when you can save money and time!

I’ve only gone once for a Costco haul but I was pretty impressed with what was available and all of the healthy options they had. I wanted to give you a quick recap of the top items I bought as a holistic health coach.

  • Peanut Butter and Almond Butter- this was an item I was hesitant about because typically nut butter can be loaded with inflammatory oils and added sugar. I usually look for simply one ingredient and that is raw organic peanuts or raw organic almonds. Sometimes it can be hard to find nut butter with raw nuts instead of roasted ones. I wasn’t able to find any with raw but I was able to find some with just dry roasted organic almonds/peanuts. They came in a pack of two HUGE jars, which will allow us to be set for a while and the cost was THE SAME as what we were paying for one small jar at the regular grocers. I love to use peanut butter in my morning oats, smoothies, energy oat balls, and date bites.

  • Goji Berries- as I mentioned before this is a superfood that is amazing to incorporate into your dietary lifestyle but not always a need. Costco had a huge bag for a great price and without any added ingredients. Goji Berries are full of antioxidants that protect against UV light, free radicals, and oxidative stress which we are all exposed to. They also provide immune system support, promote healthy skin, stabilize blood sugar, prevent liver damage, AND can improve anxiety and sleep.

  • Hot Sauce- I love spice so hot sauce is usually pulled out of the fridge daily. Cholula is one of my favorites even though it does have xanthan gum but we are looking for  balance, right?! The goal is not to be perfect but more mindful.  I found a pack of two large-sized bottles for literally the same price as one standard-sized bottle at a regular grocer. I was honestly blown away by this one and instantly thought of how much money we could have been saving this entire time.

  • Organic immunity juice shots- This is also one of those items that you want but isn’t a necessity, especially when they are roughly $3 each. At Costco, they have a bundle that allows you to stock up and save money! Ideally, I’d love to just make homemade immunity juice shots but realistically that doesn’t always happen, knowing I can supplement with premade ones at a lower cost makes me happy.

  • Coconut water- a fun fact about me is that I can NEVER finish the last few sips of a drink. I don’t know why I have this habit but it especially happens with coconut water. I like my coconut water nice and cold so if I accidentally leave out the typically large bottle, it goes to waste. This prevents me from wanting to even buy it in the first place but Costco saved the day on this one. They offer a pack of SMALL individual bottles which are the perfect amount and you guessed it, at a lower cost!

I’m sure there are plenty more items I’m missing and could talk about but those were the top five that stuck out to me. If you have the opportunity to shop at a place that offers wholesale pricing, I highly recommend it! ESPECIALLY if like me, you’re on a journey toward improving your health and focusing on the foods that fuel your body.
