Improve your mindset with self care

Improve your mindset with daily self-care routines and habits. Self-care is such a buzzword lately and in a sense that has almost taken the value out of the actual practice of self-care.

We should call it something else, something more meaningful and important because it absolutely is. If you have any ideas, let me know.

Anyway, I used to make self-care a huge deal, like all the things at once and then not again for like another month. What I learned by doing this is that it didn’t really help me because it was so spaced out and just too much. I took a different approach and realized that I can implement small measures of self-care every single day and on the days that I have more time, I just vamp it up a little more! This felt so much more attainable, less like a chore, and I actually started to see the benefits of taking this time and caring for myself.

Don’t overthink it, okay? I’m going to share the two little self-care routines that I’ve implemented and formed habits around and then I will also share some added ideas that you can take to implement and improve your own life!

Morning: Every morning I wake up at 5 am and do something called “Morning Pages”, I will share this here eventually. I follow it up by drinking a lot of water and doing a 10-15 slow-moving yoga session. I then wash my face, drink warm lemon water, and make my coffee. I enjoy coffee on the couch with either journaling, meditation, or facial reflexology depending on the day.

Before every shower, I dry brush to improve my lymphatic system. I take a dry brush, add my favorite calming essential oils, and dry brush while the shower is getting steamy. On days that I have more time I take a little longer and listen to a podcast or a chillin’ meditation.

On the days that I’m washing my hair, I do a small oil routine prior to dry brushing to help nourish my scalp, soothe and stimulate my hair follicles!

While I do all of the above I either do a mud mask, exfoliating mask, or spot treatment on my face! So easy to jump in the shower and wash it off.

Evening:  Before bed, I always wash my face and brush my teeth. While I do this, I set an intention for the next day, inhale sleep oils, and take a few deep breaths. I know this sounds really simple but you actively have to be mindful of actually doing it!

I also take this time to fill up my water bottle, take my supplements, and end the night listening to a sleep meditation.

Every Friday or Saturday night (depending on how I feel): I have a more relaxing “spa” night. This consists of an Epsom salt bath with immune-boosting and calming essential oils. I pour myself a glass of red wine and relax in the bath for at least 20 minutes but last weekend I was in there for an entire hour!!

Sometimes I listen to a meditation or just sit with my thoughts, recently I’ve been scrolling and I’m totally not proud of that. Setting boundaries on this one because the time in the bath is meant for relaxation not screen time stimulation.

After the bath, I use a luxurious body oil with sleep essential oils and always follow up with getting in my “cozies” and a movie or tv show.

These small acts and consistent routines equal so much more than one “self care day”.

Ideas that you can use aside from the ones I just mentioned:

  • Read a book in a cozy corner

  • Stretch

  • Attend to your nails/ mini at-home manicure and pedicure

  • Make your favorite snack and watch a movie

  • Facial reflexology

  • Journal

  • Make a warm beverage and sip it slowly

  • Turn off your phone

  • Listen to a podcast

  • Meditate

  • Epsom salt bath

  • Go for a walk

  • Do an extended facial routine

The point is to find mini- self care routines that you can incorporate within your current lifestyle. Form habits surrounding them, create little protocols for situations based on the way you’re feeling. This is really important to prevent burn out and promote overall growth. These small habits create a ripple effect within your life.
